Dear Reader:

Welcome to my new novel-in-progress. Into Darkness and Desolation is my current working title. This novel is sent in the same world as Alone With Myself ‹ it is, on the surface a prequel, but in many ways it is not. Over the coming months, I plan on slowly posting chapters as I write them; I will also be going back and editing previous chapters, so you will see a revision date at the top of each chapter. This novel will progress much more slowly than Alone because I am not starting with six chapters already written.

Please do not copy these posted chapters. They are for your reading pleasure only while connected to this web site. They may not be distributed, transmitted, or otherwise moved from this place. You may not post them on your website, though you are free to link to them.

Like most authors I am not entirely sure where the novel will take me. I had a plan when I started, but my experience in writing my other novels has shown me that characters in a novel often have plans of their own. A writer often finds their characters develop personalities and ideas that they did not give them. They become alive.

Rather than limit myself in any way, take this as your official warning: this material is designed for adult audiences only. If you are under the legal age of majority in your present location, you should not access this novel without your parents' permission. While most of the novel will be suited for any audience, parts of it may possibly contain vulgar language, extreme violence, and/or sexual situations which may make some people uncomfortable. If you may be offended by any of this, you should not read any of the chapters. I will not limit my future writing to keep from offending those with narrow minds or weak constitutions.

This story tells you nothing about me or my tastes except whether or not I can write an engaging story. Like writers of murder stories, I do not necessarily approve of any of the acts described herein. The following story is fiction. All characters and events in the novel are fictional. They are made-up. Imaginary. Not real. Mostly. Any resemblance of any character to any individual, alive, dead, or yet to be born, is purely coincidental. Mostly.

I take my time writing, because if you don't write at your own pace, it doesn't usually come out very good. If you want to see new chapters produced more quickly, drop me a note and tell me what you think: it may spur me to spend a bit more time on the novel. Most writers love feedback be it good or bad; the only thing we can't abide is being ignored. Please, if you've read something you like on-line, please write the author and tell them!

I hope you like what's here and I thank you for your time in coming here and reading what my characters and I have to say. A special word of thanks to those who have written and offered words of support and encouragement. Once again, I really love comments, suggestions, and even criticisms, so please feel free to send me feedback. A special word of thanks to those who have previously written and offered words of support and encouragement. I answer all mail. Flames will be cheerfully ignored, but constructive criticism is welcome. Please, write me at writebymyself@NOSPAMaol.com (remove the NOSPAM to reply) or you may also find me on AIM at writebymyself. Lastly, if you're a publisher or a literary agent, or know one, who would be interested in helping getting any of my work published, please write me directly.

I'd also like to give very special thanks to my proofreaders without whom my modifiers would still be dangling. The proofreaders for each chapter are credited at the top.

Sincerely,
<Signed>
